President Joe Biden is joining forces with two fellow Democratic leaders, former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, to boost support for his reelection campaign. The trio will be hosting a high-profile fundraiser in New York City, aiming to generate excitement and momentum for Biden’s campaign.
The campaign predicts that the evening will bring in over $25 million, which is considered a “historic” amount for a single event. The event will kick off with a virtual pre-program that includes appearances by Biden, Obama, and Clinton. The pre-program will be hosted by Biden’s campaign manager.
Actress Mindy Kaling will take on the role of host for the highly anticipated program held at Radio City Music Hall. The star-studded event will feature performances by Queen Latifah, Lizzo, Ben Platt, Cynthia Erivo, and Lea Michele, captivating a full house of 5,000 attendees. To expand the reach of the event, the campaign also reached out to supporters through fundraising emails, providing them with the opportunity to watch the program virtually in exchange for a donation.
The evening of performances will begin with first lady Jill Biden taking the stage. The highlight of the event will be an armchair conversation featuring Biden, Obama, and Clinton, moderated by late-night comedian Stephen Colbert.
The tickets for the event were priced between $225 and $500,000, making it potentially the most profitable event in Democratic history.
According to a statement from Biden-Harris spokesperson Kevin Munoz, Democrats are showing strong unity and enthusiasm in support of President Biden’s reelection campaign. Munoz also took the opportunity to criticize Donald Trump, highlighting his financial and energy challenges, as well as the hesitancy of some GOP primary voters and criticism from his former vice president, Mike Pence.
The campaign is making a significant effort to raise a substantial amount of money before the Federal Election Commission deadline at the end of the month. This is to demonstrate the president’s fundraising prowess. In February, the campaign, along with the Democratic National Committee and their joint fundraising committees, reported raising $53 million.
Biden and Obama arrived together in New York City on Thursday afternoon, just hours before the event. This comes at a time when Biden is facing protests during his campaign due to his handling of the Israel-Hamas war. In fact, a rally at a Virginia theater in January had at least 14 disruptions.
According to the campaign, Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue, played a key role in organizing the event on Thursday. She was joined by Jeffrey Katzenberg, a movie mogul and co-chair of the Biden campaign, Rufus Gifford, the campaign’s finance chair, and Chris Korge, the finance chair of the Biden Victory Fund.
Select guests will get the chance to pose for a portrait with the three presidents, captured by the renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz. Additionally, there will be a virtual conversation with the three presidents and campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez. This will be followed by an after-party hosted by the first lady, featuring DJ D-Nice.
With seven months to go until the general election, Biden is intensifying his campaigning efforts. In what the campaign has dubbed a “month of action,” Biden has been traveling across the country, visiting battleground states since his State of the Union address. The star-studded evening adds to the momentum of his campaign.
During a recent visit to the White House, Obama joined Biden in recording videos to commemorate the 14th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act and to support future fundraising efforts. The campaign has already released two digital ads featuring the former president this election cycle, and more are in the pipeline.
Former President, who still enjoys popularity among the Democratic base, has already proven to be a valuable asset.
Grassroots fundraising efforts that bear the signature of Obama or feature his presence have successfully generated over $15.4 million for Biden’s reelection during this cycle, as reported by the campaign. One notable event, titled “Meet the Presidents,” which showcased the joint appearance of Obama and Biden, managed to raise an impressive amount of nearly $3 million.
Former President Obama and Joe Biden will be joining forces for the first time in a public campaign event on Thursday. This marks the beginning of their joint efforts to raise funds and garner support for Biden in the upcoming November elections. Obama is set to play a significant role in various fundraising events and will be traveling across the country to rally support for his former vice president.
President Obama’s senior adviser, Eric Schultz, expressed the importance of the upcoming election and President Obama’s commitment to supporting President Biden’s re-election. Schultz emphasized that Obama is eager to assist Democrats at all levels in persuading voters this fall. The strategy will focus on making a significant impact, particularly in situations where Obama’s influence can be influential in shifting public opinion.
While the Biden event was being planned, Trump took the opportunity to fundraise and sent out multiple emails with the subject line, “Obama is back!”
“In a pitch last month, he confidently exclaimed, ‘I have something even better! I have you and millions of patriotic Americans who are eager to make America great again!'”
Thursday’s event was described by Katzenberg as a testament to the remarkable fundraising machine they have built.
According to his statement, every dollar we raise will directly reach the voters who hold the power to decide the outcome of this election. Our focus is on effectively communicating the President’s remarkable accomplishments, his vision for the future, and clearly highlighting the high stakes of this election. The numbers speak for themselves: today’s event is not only a powerful demonstration of strength but also a genuine representation of the growing momentum to reelect the Biden-Harris ticket.
