Georgia congressman demands explanation for postal delays and alleged fraud, blames it on poor management

Channel 2 Action News has reported that Sens. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, along with Rep. Barry Loudermilk, are initiating a bipartisan investigation into allegations of fraud, mail theft, and check washing at the Marietta postal facility.

Loudermilk is now voicing his concerns regarding the occurrence of mail delays and operational breakdowns within the United States Postal Service throughout the state.

Loudermilk stated that they have been receiving an increasing number of phone calls regarding the need to address the issues with the Postal Services. They believe that this concern is just as significant as the concerns about the Southern Border. The problems with the Postal Services are impacting both businesses and individuals, and there is a possibility that it could even affect the upcoming election and the tax season. Loudermilk emphasized that taxes are due this week, further highlighting the urgency of addressing the Postal Services’ issues.

The congressman expressed his dissatisfaction with the mail delays and operational breakdowns within the USPS, stating that they are simply unacceptable.

According to Loudermilk, the poor planning and bad management are the main reasons behind this issue.

Channel 2’s Tyisha Fernandes has been diligently seeking answers for several months, urging for greater transparency regarding the issues plaguing the federal agency.

Loudermilk has requested the presence of the Postmaster General at the Palmetto facility, emphasizing the need to assess the situation firsthand. He urges for a thorough examination of the ongoing issues and, more importantly, a speedy resolution plan.

Loudermilk is demanding answers from Postmaster General Louis Dejoy, stating that all Georgians should have access to the mail for essential tasks such as paying bills, obtaining medication, and filing their taxes.

Loudermilk urged the Postal Service and the postmaster not to initiate another project until they address the issues with the current one and learn from their mistakes. He emphasized the need for clarification on whether the problems stem from staffing, technology, or inadequate planning. Loudermilk emphasized the importance of understanding these issues before proceeding any further.

Loudermilk is providing recommendations for Georgians in light of the current mail disruptions and delays. With Tax Day just 4 days away, he advises sending your payments to the IRS via first class, certified mail. It is important to ensure that your return is postmarked before April 15th.

If you are voting by absentee ballot, it is important to ensure the security of your vote. Instead of sending it through the USPS, consider using a drop box location to securely submit your ballot.
