Powerball player nearly misses $699 million jackpot—but still wins big in SC

A lucky Powerball player narrowly missed out on a massive $699 million jackpot but is still going to walk away with a substantial prize in South Carolina.

According to the Powerball website and an S.C. Education Lottery news release, the person’s fortunate ticket matched all of the numbers picked in the March 20 drawing, with the exception of one, thereby making it worth $50,000.

The winning numbers for the Powerball are as follows: 13, 22, 27, 54, and 66. The Powerball number is 9.

The winning ticket was purchased near the bustling travel destination of Charleston at Blue Water, a store located on Bowman Road in Mount Pleasant. The lucky lottery player managed to match four white balls and the Powerball, securing their victory.

The astonishing truth is that the ticket managed to defy odds of 1-in-913,129 and secure the massive windfall. However, it fell just one number short of claiming an even more substantial jackpot prize, which amounted to an estimated $699 million on the night of the drawing.

According to South Carolina officials, while no one managed to win the jackpot, there are over 23,000 tickets sold in the state that have won smaller prizes.

The lottery reminded players to check their tickets.

As of approximately 1:30 p.m. on March 21, the $50,000 prize remains unclaimed. However, the winner still has approximately six months to come forward, as confirmed by the state lottery website and an email from spokesperson Holli Armstrong.
