An 18-year-old lady leaps from an NYU building and dies

An 18-year-old woman died after jumping from the 5th-floor window of an NYU art building on Saturday night, according to police.

At around 7:30 p.m., the police received a distress call reporting a person who had jumped at NYU’s Barney Building on Stuyvesant Street. The building is home to the art department’s studios, classrooms, and offices.

She was immediately taken to Bellevue hospital, where medical professionals declared her deceased.

It is unclear whether or not she was a student at NYU.

Justina Sung, 30, who was in her nearby apartment at the time, recalls hearing a loud thump and a girl screaming.

According to my roommate, she heard that someone had jumped off and landed in that triangular area, pointing to the small, fenced-in green space outside the building where 9th and Stuyvesant Streets meet.
