35-year sentence handed down to man who kidnapped two hikers at gunpoint

In the summer of 2022, a man from Colorado was sentenced to 35 years in prison for kidnapping two hikers at gunpoint and holding them hostage.

During their early morning run at Fehringer Ranch Park on June 17, 2022, the victims encountered a man dressed in all blue who was kneeling on the path.

A fellow runner who saw the incident immediately dialed 911 and provided a real-time account of the entire event.

As he was being apprehended, Endsley informed the deputies that he was experiencing a heart attack and was then promptly taken to the hospital for medical attention.

Endsley admitted his guilt in court, pleading guilty to charges of first-degree attempted murder and attempted disarming of a peace officer.

In a powerful statement, the female victim, who had a prior relationship with Endsley but preferred to remain anonymous, spoke out about the impact of his actions on her life. She shared the ongoing fear and anxiety that have plagued her since that fateful day.

In a letter to the court, she expressed her hope to serve as a powerful advocate, raising awareness and instilling hope in others as they confront their fears and navigate the challenging journey of recovery and healing from trauma.

After the incident, she decided to move her family to a different state in order to start afresh. The victim expressed her gratitude towards the runner who had witnessed the incident and promptly called 911. She firmly believes that this call played a crucial role in saving her life.

After pleading guilty, Endsley received a 35-year sentence in the Department of Corrections. Additionally, he was resentenced for his harassment case in 2021, resulting in a six-month jail term with credit for time already served.
