National Crappie League Anchors Down on Weiss Lake

The Spring Crappie Tournament on Weiss Lake saw excellent participation, with 21 fishing teams taking part in the event last Saturday. These teams, comprising friends and family members who traverse the Crappie fishing tournament circuit, showcased their skills on the water. According to Paul Alper, Director of the NCL, participants hailed from 8 states, with 90 percent of anglers representing states other than Alabama.

Doug and Renee Allen emerged victorious, boasting the heaviest stringer of 5 fish, totaling 9.74 pounds, including a notable big fish weighing 2.42 pounds. Their stellar performance earned them a commendable payout of $3950, which included a $200 bonus for leading male/female team and a $350 bonus for the Big Fish of the tournament.

In a close second, Tony Thomas secured a noteworthy spot with a stringer weighing 9.67 pounds, earning him a total payout of $1950. Following closely behind, the team of Charles Bowman and Morgan Neal clinched third place, their combined catch weighing 9.65 pounds, resulting in a payout of $1000.

Overall, the day boasted a total payout of $10,000, with the top 10 places receiving checks. Alper expressed satisfaction with the tournament’s success and encouraged local teams to join the March 2025 NCL Tournament on Weiss Lake for another exciting event.
