Florida woman charged with freeway gunshots amid eclipse said she was ‘guided by God’

A woman was arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol after allegedly going on a “shooting spree” on Interstate 10 in Holmes County. The motive for her actions, according to the agency, was Monday’s solar eclipse. The incident was reported in a news release by the Florida Highway Patrol.

Taylon Nichelle Celestine, a 22-year-old resident of Georgia, has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and improper discharge of a firearm.

The authorities are currently holding her in the Holmes County Jail, as confirmed by the FHP. It has been reported that the law enforcement officers were able to seize an AR-15 and a 9 mm handgun.

According to a news release, the suspect, who recently checked out of a local hotel, informed the staff that she was going on a shooting spree. She claimed that her actions were directed by God in connection to the solar eclipse.

2 drivers treated for injuries

As Celestine took her purple Dodge Challenger onto the interstate, she opened fire, hitting another vehicle with multiple shots.

According to the release, the driver of the vehicle was hit by glass fragments from the window and grazed on the arm by a bullet. However, he managed to steer the vehicle onto the shoulder of the road, away from the suspect.

As of Monday afternoon, a second driver was receiving treatment at a nearby hospital after being shot in the neck.
