Michigan authorities have reported the arrest of three individuals from out-of-state in connection with a series of car break-ins across Macomb and Oakland counties. The suspects, identified as Danarius Young and Chauncey Franklin from Florida, and Kayln Croom from Tennessee, are facing charges including conspiracy and conducting a criminal enterprise. The apprehension of the suspects was made by the Shelby Township Police following a series of burglary reports that began on March 14. According to the police, the suspects employed a brazen strategy of smashing car windows and stealing valuables, targeting residential neighborhoods.
The investigation quickly gained momentum when surveillance footage captured two suspects in a silver Mazda SUV. The authorities later discovered that the car was rented from Florida. Thanks to the collaboration between the Shelby Township and Troy Police Departments, Young and Franklin were apprehended after being caught in the act of a vehicle break-in in Rochester Hills. Police Chief Robert Shelide issued a strong warning, stating, “I have emphasized time and again that if you choose to commit a crime in Shelby Township, we will locate and arrest you, regardless of your origins or attempts to conceal yourself.”
According to the Macomb Daily, the Shelby Township Tactical Response Unit arrested the suspects and conducted a search warrant that resulted in the recovery of stolen property. Additionally, three more individuals were detained in connection with the crimes. The investigators discovered the vehicle used in the incidents parked in a garage of a residence in Rochester. Tragically, while attempting to escape following the break-ins, one of the Florida duo’s accomplices was fatally struck by a vehicle on M-59. The driver, who was initially unaware of the severity of the situation, fully cooperated once the tragic consequences of the collision became apparent.
According to Hoodline, this incident brought attention to the often unseen consequences of crime. Sadly, the woman involved in this incident was pronounced dead at the scene, highlighting the serious implications that arose from what initially seemed like petty thefts. The suspects have been incarcerated and their bonds have been set at $250,000 for Young, $200,000 for Franklin, and $100,000 for Croom. As they await due process in custody, the Shelby Township Police Department continues their investigation and remains vigilant in their commitment to combating criminal activities within their community’s boundaries.
