The Washington Commanders announced on Monday that they had been informed about a lawsuit filed against their kicker, Brandon McManus, in civil court last week. Similarly, the Jacksonville Jaguars have acknowledged that they are also facing a lawsuit.
The Commanders spokesperson has stated that the team is currently investigating the situation and has reached out to McManus’ agent and the NFL office. They emphasized the seriousness with which they take allegations of this nature.
According to ESPN, two women have filed lawsuits against McManus, accusing him of sexually assaulting them during a charter flight to London last year while he was playing for the Jaguars. The Jaguars have acknowledged the complaint and the gravity of the allegations being made.
The Jaguars stated that as they investigate the matter further, it is important to highlight the significance of an organization composed of individuals who embody the values of our community and approach the game with utmost integrity and sportsmanship.
According to ESPN, two women, identified as Jane Doe I and Jane Doe II, have filed a lawsuit accusing McManus of inappropriate behavior during a flight. The court documents, which have not been made available on Duval County’s public records database, allege that McManus rubbed and ground against the women. Furthermore, the lawsuit claims that the Jaguars failed to properly supervise McManus and create a safe working environment for their staff. The women are seeking over $1 million in damages and have requested a jury trial.
According to McManus’ attorney, these allegations are completely fabricated and clearly untrue.
“We will vigorously protect Brandon’s rights and reputation, and vindicate his innocence by exposing the true nature of these allegations as an extortion scheme,” stated Brett R. Gallaway of McLaughlin & Stern in a press release sent to The Associated Press.
33-year-old McManus, originally from Philadelphia, recently joined the Washington team in March. With a decade of experience in the league, he spent his first nine seasons with the Denver Broncos, following his college career at Temple.
