Scottsboro, Alabama — Running a lemonade stand is a common childhood dream for many kids in the U.S. However, not everyone feels compelled to start one. This was not the case for 7-year-old Emouree Johnson from Scottsboro, Alabama. She recently launched her own lemonade business, inspired by a traumatic incident she experienced a few weeks ago.
Emouree exclaimed that she woke up to the most devastating news of her life.
Emouree’s world was shattered when her mother, Karli, passed away suddenly at the young age of 29. As a single parent, Karli had been everything to Emouree.
When Emouree accompanied her grandmother, Jennifer Bordner, to the cemetery for the first time, she couldn’t fathom why every other person had been honored with a grand granite headstone, while her own mother had only been given a small metal one.
Emouree expressed that she had a sense of being excluded.
Jennifer attempted to clarify that the family was unable to afford a headstone.
Jennifer’s granddaughter was moved to tears and had a strong desire to lend a hand, according to Jennifer.
Emouree found herself in a situation where she had to think outside the box to raise funds.
Emouree proudly exclaimed, “I created my very own lemonade stand!”
Word quickly spread about her cause, and soon enough, it seemed like everyone in Scottsboro was yearning for a refreshing glass of lemonade. Initially, Emouree refrained from discussing her purpose openly, but news of her venture eventually made its way through the community.
People were so enamored with it that they frequently paid more than the $1 price tag.
Emouree expressed, “We were able to generate a staggering $300 from just one cup of lemonade.”
Emouree’s lemonade stand has managed to raise an impressive amount of over $15,000, which will be entirely saved as a monument company has generously offered to donate the headstone. However, what truly matters is that Emouree has skillfully transformed the sour lemons life has given her into a refreshing glass of hope.
Jennifer shared that when all the people came, she was amazed by how many people cared for her and loved her mommy. A few weeks after starting her lemonade stand, Emouree also faced the loss of her uncle, Steve, to a heart attack. In Scottsboro, the community takes the responsibility of raising and supporting a child seriously. They have come together to provide Emouree with comfort and love in abundance.
