On Tuesday afternoon, officials from Albuquerque International Sunport and Kirtland Air Force Base reported that a military aircraft had crashed and caught fire near their location in New Mexico.
The ABQ Sunport reported that the aircraft crashed near the airfield on the south side of the airport. Diana Lopez, a spokesperson, stated that the investigation into the crash is being led by Kirtland Air Force Base.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact type of plane, but video footage of the crash scene appeared to show a military fighter jet.
The aircraft had one occupant, who was the pilot, and they were able to eject from the aircraft.

Albuquerque fire officials were alerted to a potential aircraft crash at approximately 2 p.m. local time. Upon arrival at the scene, first responders immediately initiated a search for the pilot and commenced efforts to suppress the fire.
Fire officials were alerted to a downed aircraft at approximately 2 p.m., according to KRQE.
The pilot, who was discovered conscious, was immediately transported to the hospital with what fire officials described as “serious injuries.”
Two other individuals were present at the location, and they were evaluated, but there was no need for them to be taken to the hospital.
Fire officials quickly responded to the scene and diligently worked to extinguish the raging flames.
Flight operations have resumed at the airport, with Rio Bravo and University being temporarily closed. Fire officials have advised people to avoid the area.
Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller expressed his gratitude for the quick response of the first responders who swiftly arrived at the scene. He also mentioned that his thoughts and prayers are with the pilot involved in the incident.

Kirtland Air Force Base houses the 377th Air Base Wing, responsible for carrying out nuclear operations and preparing and supplying expeditionary forces. Additionally, it serves as the location for the Air Force Research Laboratory.
