Woman accused of leaving 3-year-old alone at home to go gambling

A Batavia woman was taken into custody by the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office in connection with a 3-year-old boy who was discovered alone near his home.

Megan J. Courtney, a 28-year-old woman, was taken into custody on Tuesday for putting a child’s welfare at risk.

According to officials, Courtney is accused of leaving a three-year-old unattended at a residence on W. Main Street Road. It is alleged that the child was discovered outside, running by himself.

According to the sheriff’s office, she was later discovered engaging in gambling activities at Batavia Downs.

Courtney awaited her CAP court hearing while being held at the Genesee County Jail.
