US to impose fresh sanctions on Iran over its backing of Russia’s involvement in Ukraine conflict and potential missile deal

The White House has announced its plans to release new sanctions on Iran within the next few days. These sanctions are a response to Iran’s arms sales, which have directly aided Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The administration is also warning of a strong and immediate reaction if Iran proceeds with selling ballistic missiles to Moscow.

According to National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, the United States plans to impose further sanctions on Iran in the near future. This decision comes in response to Iran’s involvement in supplying Russia with drones and other technology for the conflict in Ukraine. Kirby also delivered a stern message to Iran, warning that providing ballistic missiles to Russia for use against Kyiv would result in even harsher sanctions and potential actions at the United Nations.

For months now, the United States has been issuing warnings about Russia’s attempts to obtain ballistic missiles from Iran. In exchange, Russia has promised to provide Tehran with increased military cooperation.

According to Kirby, there is no confirmation yet regarding the movement of missiles from Iran to Russia. However, he also mentioned that there is no reason to doubt that they will not carry out this action.

“If Iran proceeds, the international community will respond swiftly and with severity,” he warned. He emphasized that the United States would bring the matter before the UN Security Council, where Russia holds a veto.

“We will impose more sanctions on Iran and work closely with our allies and partners in Europe and other regions to explore additional response measures,” stated Kirby.

Kirby expressed his determination to take action against the military alliance between Russia and Iran. He emphasized that the United States has previously shown its ability to respond to this partnership and will continue to do so in the future. Kirby announced that additional sanctions will be imposed on Iran due to its ongoing support for Russia’s brutal war. Furthermore, he stated that the United States is ready to escalate its measures if Iran proceeds with the sale of ballistic missiles to Russia.

The United States is poised to unveil a fresh wave of sanctions on Russia, coinciding with the second anniversary of the Ukraine invasion and the recent passing of Alexei Navalny, a prominent critic of the Kremlin, in a Russian prison.
