Emergency crews were called to the scene at 11:20 a.m., approximately 90 minutes north of Austin. Upon arrival, they discovered a vehicle carrying three people with a load weighing 350,000 pounds on top of it. The incident occurred at the intersection of Highway 36 and 317, as reported by Temple Fire & Rescue’s Facebook page. The Temple Police Department was also notified and responded to the incident.
The driver of the vehicle was safely extracted by EMS after a four-hour operation. According to officials, he was then airlifted to Baylor Scott & White Health with injuries that were deemed life-threatening.
According to USA TODAY, police are currently conducting an investigation but have not provided any additional comments at this time.
