Forty Thieves Kitchen & Bar and Doc Sullivan’s Restaurant are currently closed until further notice due to the unexpected passing of co-owner Tommy Cowan.
The news was announced by both Buffalo staples on Instagram on Tuesday.
Doc Sullivan’s shared a heart-wrenching message on its Instagram story.
According to Cowan’s obituary, Tommy was known for his caring and generous nature, making him a beloved figure in the community. At Tommy’s table, everyone felt welcomed and included.
In January, Jeff Russo, a news anchor from 7 News, had a conversation with Cowan and his business partner, Brian Scanlon, at Forty Thieves in the Elmwood Village before the Bills game in Miami. The kitchen and bar have consistently supported “Bills Backers at the Beach” in Fort Lauderdale.
Doc Sullivan’s in South Buffalo has become a popular choice for wing enthusiasts in Buffalo, earning a spot on the prestigious Buffalo Wing Trail list.
On Wednesday morning, a heartfelt tribute of flowers adorned the entrance of Doc Sullivan’s.
Cowan was also involved in the ownership group of Patrick’s Rooftop at 500 Pearl.
A wake is scheduled for Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cannan Funeral Home in Orchard Park. A celebration honoring his life will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Basilica in Lackawanna. To read his full obituary and tributes, please click here.
The Buffalo community is providing an overwhelming amount of support, which is bringing solace to Cowan’s family.
In an interview with 7 News, Cowan’s mother Libby and his sister Erin expressed their heartfelt sorrow. They described Tommy as the light of their lives, a remarkably generous and kind-hearted individual. They emphasized that he will forever hold a special place in their hearts, as he was truly the best person they have ever known.
Family and friends fondly remember Buffalo restaurateur Tommy Cowan as “the best guy we know.”
