Trump urges for sanctions and censure against special counsel Jack Smith

Former President Donald Trump is calling for the sanction or censure of special counsel Jack Smith, accusing him of “attacking” the judge involved in Trump’s classified documents case.

In response to Judge Aileen Cannon’s latest ruling, Trump expressed his disagreement with Smith and his team of prosecutors. According to Trump, Cannon’s decision was flawed due to an unstated and fundamentally flawed legal premise. The prosecutors also raised objections to Cannon’s order, which required them to provide proposed jury instructions under two different legal scenarios. Smith argued that both of these scenarios were flawed.

Prosecutors have requested clarification from the judge regarding Cannon’s position in order to determine whether they can appeal if necessary. They are seeking a decision before the trial on whether the Presidential Records Act affects the unauthorized possession of classified documents. Failing to do so could potentially prevent the prosecution of Trump due to the double jeopardy clause in the Fifth Amendment, which prohibits multiple prosecutions for the same crime.

In a fit of anger, Trump launched a scathing attack on Thursday morning.

In a message posted on Truth Social, former President Donald Trump expressed his strong disapproval of Special Counsel Jack Smith, who he described as deranged and having a history of failure as a prosecutor. Trump further stated that Smith should face sanctions or censure for his attacks on Judge Aileen Cannon, who is overseeing the case involving what Trump referred to as a “FAKE Documents Hoax” in Florida.

According to Trump, Smith should not be handling the case.

“He should not be permitted to take part in this fraudulent case, where I, unlike Crooked Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, and others, am subject to the Presidential Records Act,” Trump expressed. “I have not committed any wrongdoing, but Biden has, and they allowed him to go unpunished. How did that happen, Jack? It’s a two-tiered system of justice. Election interference!”

Trump maintains his innocence in the face of 40 felony charges. These accusations claim that he unlawfully possessed and distributed classified military information to individuals without proper security clearance. Moreover, he allegedly attempted to evade government efforts to recover these documents.

President Joe Biden is set to face off against Trump once again in this year’s presidential election. In addition to this political challenge, Trump is also confronted with three separate criminal cases in New York, Georgia, and another federal case in Washington D.C. Interestingly, he has utilized millions of dollars from campaign contributions to cover his growing legal expenses.

In addition to his legal battles, Trump is currently appealing a hefty $464 million fine in a civil case in New York. To proceed with his appeal, he has already submitted a $175 million bond.
