Officials said that three Atlanta police officers were shot while they were responding to a call on Saturday evening.
According to Atlanta PD Chief Darin Schierbaum, the officers responded to a call of a man with a gun on Desoto Avenue SW at around 5 p.m.
According to Schierbaum, the suspect, who was reportedly armed with a handgun and knife, was confronted by the officers when gunfire erupted.
According to the chief, the suspect involved in the scuffle was killed.
According to the police, the three members of the Force were transported to Grady Hospital. They were reported to be “alert, conscious, and breathing.”
Two officers on the force for four years were described as 31-year-olds. The third officer, who had been on the force for five months, was described as a 28-year-old.
According to Chief Schierbaum, one officer sustained a shoulder gunshot wound, another was shot in the leg, and the third officer was grazed. The chief further mentioned that two of the officers required surgery.
The investigation is still ongoing.
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens made a visit to the hospital to meet with the officers and their families.
In a statement, he expressed his thoughts and concern for the officers and their families, while also affirming their full cooperation with the ongoing investigation. He also extended his gratitude to the surgeons and staff at Grady Hospital for their efforts in ensuring the survival of the officers.
