Three Louisiana police officers were injured during a deadly confrontation with an armed individual on Sunday, according to officials.
Kenner Police responded to a shooting incident at around 9:45 a.m. in the 700 block of Farm Avenue. According to a statement from Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto and Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley, two individuals were shot outside of a residence.
Officials stated that the residence was owned by a family member of Michael Lathers, 31, who was wanted for an attempted murder and armed robbery that had taken place earlier in the week in Kenner.
According to the statement, three Kenner police officers were wounded and Lathers was fatally shot by a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy during a standoff.
Lopinto and Conley stated that they made several unsuccessful attempts to contact Lathers in order to initiate negotiations.
Officials have stated that the wounded officers have been taken to a nearby hospital and are currently in stable condition.
According to the statement, Lathers was pronounced dead at the scene.
