These are the teams that won state championships at the IHSAA State Championships

March Madness isn’t limited to just college basketball.

Four new boys basketball state champions were crowned by the Indiana High School Athletics Association at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Saturday night.

Here are the highlights and final scores:

1A: Ft. Wayne Canterbury 48, Bethesda Christian 41

Bethesda Christian and Fort Wayne Canterbury went head-to-head in a thrilling clash, as both schools vied for their maiden boys’ state championship.

In the final quarter, the Bethesda Patriots found themselves trailing by three points. Despite their efforts to keep the game within reach, a crucial mistake allowed Fort Wayne senior Devon Lewis to have an open shot. As a result, the Cavaliers extended their lead to eight points with only 37 seconds remaining.

The Patriots were unable to mount a comeback, resulting in Fort Wayne Canterbury taking home the trophy with a final score of 48-41.

2A: Brownstown Central 55, Wapahani 36

In the matchup between Class 2A teams, Wapahani faced off against Brownstown Central, both eager to secure their first state title.

The game began with an incredible opportunity for Wapahani senior, Isaac Andrews, as he took a second chance from a deep position. With a stroke of luck, the ball bounced favorably, giving the Raiders a one-point lead.

The Braves wasted no time taking control of the game after that, going on an impressive 19-4 run. The run was highlighted by a fantastic three-pointer from junior Chace Coomer, sealing their dominance.

Brownstown emerged victorious with a commanding score of 55-36.

3A: Scottsburg 67, South Bend St. Josephโ€™s 57

In the Class 3A game, Scottsburg faced off against South Bend St. Joseph as they aimed to secure their first ever state championship title.

Scottsburg remained resilient throughout the game, with their senior player Jack Miller taking charge and scoring an impressive 32 points.

The Warriors emerged victorious with a final score of 67-57.

4A: Fishers 65, Ben Davis 56

The Fishers Tigers had never achieved the feat of winning a sectional championship prior to this year. It has truly been an exceptional season for them.

In the first half, Fishers and Ben Davis were tied. However, at the beginning of the second half, the Giants managed to take a one-point lead. But then, Fishers’ Keenan Garner came charging ahead with determination, reclaiming the lead for Fishers.

After the Giants regained possession of the ball, Tigers’ junior Jonanthony Hall swiftly intercepted it and took his shot, successfully adding three points to Fishers’ score.

Fishers emerged victorious with a 65-56 win in the 4A competition.
