Teenager from Atlanta accused of modifying and depositing checks into multiple bank accounts in Alabama

A 19-year-old has been taken into custody in relation to a case of identity theft.

Police in Auburn received a report about fraudulent checks on January 2nd.

In December 2023, a victim reported to the officers that multiple checks were sent to their intended recipients from a location in Auburn.

During transit, authorities have reported that the checks were stolen, modified, and then deposited into several bank accounts that fall outside the jurisdiction of the Auburn Police Department.

The police have identified Miranda Lauren Masone, a 19-year-old resident of Atlanta, as the suspect in question.

College Park police located her and took her into custody for charges of identity theft and theft of property.

Masone willingly agreed to be extradited and was transported to the Auburn Police Department on Sunday. Subsequently, she was officially processed and detained at the Lee County Jail, where she remained until her bond of $8,000 was posted.
