Six Individuals, Including Two Georgia Correctional Officers, Face Charges for Contraband Attempts

Several illegal activities have occurred at different Georgia state prisons, leading to charges against six individuals, including two correctional officers.

On February 9, officials from the Georgia Department of Corrections reported a suspicious individual near Dodge State Prison. Security personnel at the facility took notice and immediately deployed the GDC Canine Unit to investigate. The suspect, who was later identified as Civilian Darryl James, was successfully tracked down by the unit, according to officials.

Officials have stated that during a search, they found a range of contraband items. These include a DJI 600 drone, 59 grams of ecstasy, 212 grams of marijuana, 7,059 grams of tobacco, 1 master lock with a key, and 42 packs of rolling paper.

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office arrested Civilian James, who was subsequently booked at the Dodge County Jail, according to officials.

On February 12, a suspicious individual caught the attention of authorities near Rogers State Prison, as reported by the GDC. Upon conducting a comprehensive search of the vicinity, law enforcement discovered two plastic bags containing a significant quantity of contraband.

GDC officials have announced that Zhykeem Anderson has been arrested and is currently being held at Tatnall County Jail.

On February 4, during their routine patrols, the Milledgeville Police Department noticed a suspicious individual near Baldwin State Prison, which marked the third contraband incident at the GDC.

During the investigation, law enforcement officers discovered a truck containing a suspect. The GDC K-9 unit successfully uncovered a second suspect who was hiding in the wood line. In addition to the suspects, various contraband items were found, including slides, shirts, socks, a skullcap, a wrench, vapes, lighters, charging cables, charging blocks, earbuds, super glue, D3 gummy vitamins, 1,255 grams of tobacco, and 3.6 grams of marijuana. The authorities promptly arrested both suspects and transported them to Milledgeville PD for further processing.

On February 8, a disturbing incident took place at Wilcox State Prison involving Correctional Officer Robert Altman. Upon entering the prison, Altman was subjected to a thorough search. Surprisingly, officials discovered four packages cleverly concealed within his food. The packages, wrapped in grey electrical duct tape, contained a total of 242 grams of marijuana. Authorities promptly alerted the Abbeville Police, who have launched an investigation into this matter.

On February 9, at Smith State Prison, officials discovered a controlled substance in the possession of Correctional Officer Shaniya Odom during an attempt to clear the front entry. The substance, suspected to be marijuana, has led to an ongoing investigation and charges being filed against Odom.
