According to court documents, an Indiana man was sentenced to 57 years in prison on Monday for the murder of his 17-year-old neighbor. The girl was reported missing for more than five months before her body was discovered buried in his backyard the previous year.
Patrick Scott, 59, has reached a plea agreement that includes a requirement to pay $10,000 restitution to the victim’s family.
In January, Scott accepted a plea deal that resulted in the dropping of charges of obstruction of justice and giving false information to a law enforcement officer. On Monday, the judge accepted the plea and agreed to the sentence.
Detectives were able to identify the girl by using orange fingernail polish, which was the color she was last seen wearing in a social media post on June 7.
When CNN reached out to Scott’s attorney, public defender Bryan Barrett, for comment on Monday, he declined to provide a statement.
CNN has contacted the Rush County Sheriffโs Office and the Rush County Coroner to inquire about Tindallโs cause of death.
