Oregon’s beloved fairy-tale-themed amusement park, which happens to be one of the two authentic amusement parks in the state, has received a nomination for the prestigious “Best Family-Owned Amusement Park” by Newsweek’s readers’ choice.
You have the opportunity to vote for your favorite family-owned theme park from a selection of 15 across the country. This includes the enchanting Enchanted Forest, located in the Salem area.
In the mid-1960s, Roger Tofte purchased the land and embarked on the construction of Enchanted Forest. Since its opening in 1971, the park has been under the management of the Tofte family.
“When we first began, my original intention was to construct a few structures amidst the serene woods, and I estimated that it would be completed within a span of two years,” Tofte shared with The Oregonian shortly after the park’s inauguration in the autumn of 1971. “However, to my surprise, the project has been ongoing for nearly eight years due to the constant emergence of fresh and innovative concepts.”
The park has captivated visitors with its delightful blend of enchanting stories and thrilling attractions such as bumper cars and a log ride since its opening.
Enchanted Forest faced significant challenges in staying open during the pandemic. Unfortunately, in 2020, the park also experienced a heartbreaking loss when Wyatt Tofte, Roger Tofte’s 13-year-old great-grandson, tragically passed away in the Beachie Creek fire. To add to their difficulties, the following year brought further damage to the park due to ice.
Enchanted Forest, despite the challenges it faced, remained resilient. The park has announced that it will be ready to welcome visitors for the 2024 season on March 22.
