NYPD helicopter actively pursued alleged suspect evading police in New Jersey

In their pursuit of a suspect wanted for a felony in New Jersey, law enforcement officials utilized a helicopter.

The NYPD utilized their helicopter and advanced technology to trace the path of the white 2024 BMW, from the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge all the way to the Belt Parkway. Eventually, they successfully pinpointed the vehicle’s location as it headed eastbound on the parkway.

While in traffic, they tracked the vehicle from above, capturing a momentary pause when the suspect snapped a photo of the NYPD helicopter.

Afterward, he hopped back into the car and continued his journey on the Van Wyck Expressway. Unexpectedly, the driver veered off onto 91st Avenue.

The suspect deliberately entered the parking garage at Jamaica Medical Center in an attempt to evade the pursuing helicopter.

However, the aerial surveillance guided the officers on the ground, enabling them to apprehend the suspect in the parking garage.

A 31-year-old man named Michael Perez from Great Neck is facing charges of reckless endangerment and criminal mischief.

The car was reported stolen in New Jersey, and there are more charges pending in that state.

Perez also has a warrant outstanding in another state.
