New poll shows decrease in favorability for Hochul

According to a recent poll, New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s approval rating has seen a decline. The poll indicates that a majority of voters perceive her as disconnected from the everyday concerns of average New Yorkers.

The latest survey conducted by Siena College reveals that Hochul’s favorability rating has slightly decreased to 41-46%, compared to 45-42% last month. Similarly, her job approval rating has also seen a decline, standing at 48-47%, down from 52-43% in the previous month.

According to Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg, Governor Hochul experienced a decrease in her favorability and job approval ratings this month. After reaching her highest ratings in almost a year last month, both ratings dropped by a net of eight points. Greenberg noted that Hochul’s favorability rating returned to negative territory, where it had remained for most of 2023.

According to Greenberg, Hochul’s favorability and job approval ratings saw the most significant decline among downstate suburban voters and Democrats. This drop could be attributed to various factors, including her budget proposals, her initiatives on voter-related matters, and the recent high-profile special election in Queens and Nassau.

According to pollsters, the survey revealed that a significant number of voters feel that the first-term Democrat lacks an understanding of the concerns of the state’s voters.

According to Greenberg, a political analyst, a significant number of voters, including a majority of Republicans and a sizable portion of independents, believe that Hochul is disconnected from the everyday experiences of average New Yorkers. This sentiment is even present within the Democratic party, with opinions on the matter being divided among its members.

According to Greenberg, there is some “good news” for Hochul as recent polling data indicates that a majority of voters, including independents and a significant portion of Republicans, view her as hard-working. Additionally, 49% of respondents believe that she is not corrupt, although Republicans have differing opinions on the matter.

According to the statement, Hochul is seen as honest by a plurality of all voters and a majority of Democrats. Additionally, Democrats view her as an effective and strong leader, although voters as a whole are evenly split on this matter.

Kathy Hochul made history in 2022 by becoming the first woman to be elected as the governor of New York. Despite facing a challenging race and a formidable opponent in Lee Zeldin, Hochul emerged victorious. Prior to assuming the role of governor, she had served as Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s deputy for seven years. When Cuomo resigned amidst allegations of sexual harassment, Hochul stepped in to lead the state.

According to a recent Siena poll conducted between February 12-14, addressing New York’s high cost of living is one of the top concerns for voters. This is followed by issues such as immigration, crime, and the shortage of housing. However, it is important to note that the ranking of these issues varies depending on the political party affiliation of the voters.

According to Greenberg, the top priorities for Democrats are the cost of living, housing, and migrants. On the other hand, Republicans are most concerned about migrants, the cost of living, and crime. Independents, however, prioritize the cost of living, migrants, and crime.
