Federal funding of $15 million awarded to two airports in Oregon

Redmond Municipal Airport (RDM) and Portland International Airport (PDX) are set to receive a substantial boost in funding, with a total of $15.2 million being allocated to them through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This significant investment will undoubtedly enhance the facilities and services offered by both airports, ultimately benefiting travelers and the local communities they serve.

The funding for the Airport Terminal Grants program comes directly from the Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24).

According to U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley of Oregon, both PDX and RDM serve as important hubs for travelers. He emphasizes that the federal investments made in these airports will have several benefits. Firstly, they will enhance ADA accessibility, making it easier for people with disabilities to navigate through the airports. Secondly, these investments will increase energy efficiency, promoting sustainability in airport operations. Lastly, the funds will ensure the safety and convenience of travelers as they move between planes and boarding bridges, which are vital components of airport infrastructure.

U.S. Senator Ron Wyden, a Democrat from Oregon, shared a similar viewpoint.

According to Wyden, having a strong economy necessitates robust infrastructure. He emphasizes the importance of well-functioning and inviting airports for economic growth, especially for small businesses that rely on tourism revenue to survive.

Redmond Municipal Airport has been awarded a generous grant of $7 million to support its ongoing terminal building expansion project.

Portland International Airport has been awarded $8.2 million to finance the replacement of nine Passenger Boarding Bridges.

“We are dedicated to creating a sustainable and inclusive environment at PDX, ensuring the safety and comfort of all travelers,” emphasized Curtis Robinhold, the Executive Director of the Port of Portland. “By making this investment, we are reinforcing our commitment to the new PDX, which will feature state-of-the-art passenger boarding bridges that prioritize safety, reliability, energy efficiency, and accessibility for every passenger.”
