New Jersey man arrested in residence containing suspected heroin and fentanyl

A 35-year-old man from Atlantic County was taken into custody in Egg Harbor Township after authorities discovered a large quantity of illegal drugs in his residence. Shockingly, the same home was occupied by five young children at the time of the arrest.

Woody Demosthenes was apprehended on Friday when authorities conducted a raid on his residence in Egg Harbor Township.

According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, Demosthenes was the sole adult in the residence, responsible for five children ranging in age from three to 15 years old.

During the operation, law enforcement officers successfully seized a significant amount of suspected drugs. The recovered items included 20,750 stamped bags of suspected heroin/fentanyl, 41 ounces of suspected loose heroin/fentanyl, 25 ounces of suspected cocaine, and 11 ounces of suspected methamphetamine. This successful seizure highlights the dedication and effectiveness of the officers in combating illegal drug activities.

The police discovered various drug packaging and measuring materials in the basement, which included a metal sifter, a digital scale, a vacuum sealer, as well as a “hazmat” suit and a full face respirator.

During the search, law enforcement discovered a loaded handgun containing 10 rounds of hollow point ammunition on a shelf in the closet. Additionally, a substantial amount of cash totaling nearly $11,000 was recovered from Demosthenes’ vehicle.

Demosthenes is facing charges for first- and second-degree narcotics and weapons offenses, in addition to five counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

He remained in custody at Atlantic County jail until his detention hearing.
