New details have emerged about the four-unit South Buffalo home where the body of 12-year-old Jaylen Griffin was discovered, according to 7 News.

Griffin, who had been missing since August of 2020, was discovered in the attic of 107 Sheffield Avenue, according to the police.

“It’s disgusting,” expressed a neighbor who preferred to remain anonymous.

Sunrise West LLC is the owner of the home, as indicated by Erie County records.

In a lawsuit currently underway, a neighbor has alleged that a tenant residing at 107 Sheffield Street recklessly threw burnt mattress fragments out the window, resulting in over $130,000 worth of damages to the neighboring property.

Sunrise West LLC and Spectrum Health & Human Services are facing a lawsuit that also includes allegations against them. According to the tenant and their attorney, Spectrum Health & Human Services failed to properly vet tenants for the property at 107 Sheffield, demonstrating negligence, carelessness, and recklessness.

Spectrum Health & Human Services offers a supportive adult housing program on their website. This program specifically caters to individuals with high-need and high-risk situations, who are dealing with co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse issues.

Spectrum Health & Human Services declined to comment on whether the home has been or is currently being used by Spectrum. However, a spokesperson stated that they are actively cooperating with the police in their investigation of Griffin’s homicide.

Buffalo Police have initiated a homicide investigation into the tragic death of Jaylen Griffin.

Several residents who were interviewed by 7 News mentioned that the house in question has been causing problems for many years.

A neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, shared an incident that occurred approximately a year or two ago. While walking down the street with their son, they were unexpectedly approached by one of the residents who brandished a bat. This unsettling encounter left the neighbor feeling unsafe within the confines of their own home.

According to a neighbor interviewed by 7 News, she has been receiving alerts regarding the presence of registered sex offenders residing in 107 Sheffield. Further investigation by 7 News revealed records confirming that one of these individuals was recently arrested and charged with a new sex offense.

“I feel unsafe in my own home.”

Buffalo Police are currently conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the individual or individuals responsible for the tragic death of Griffin. As the investigation continues, the community has come together to pay tribute to Griffin by placing blue and green balloons, as well as candles, outside the residence.
