According to White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan, the death of Alexei Navalny in a Russian prison camp is indicative of President Vladimir Putin’s vulnerability.
During an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Sullivan remarked on the commentary in the United States regarding the death of Alexei Navalny. He stated that the notion of Putin having to imprison Navalny, silence him, and now suppress anyone who wishes to mourn him is not a display of strength, but rather a sign of weakness.
Navalny, who had been a political opponent of Putin for a long time, passed away in a penal colony just a few weeks ago at the age of 47. The prison service claimed that he collapsed while taking a walk, but the United States holds Putin accountable for his death.
Yarmysh stated that the funeral is still awaiting completion. She expressed uncertainty regarding whether the authorities would allow it to proceed according to the family’s wishes and in a manner befitting Alexei.
Navalny’s mother, Lyudmila Navalnaya, has claimed that authorities tried to force her into agreeing to a private funeral for her son. The alternative, they warned, was that he would be buried in the penal colony where he was held.
According to Sullivan, the final decision on whether Russia should permit a public funeral for the opposition leader should rest with Navalny’s mother.
