Michelle Troconis receives a 20-year prison sentence for aiding boyfriend in concealing Jennifer Dulos’ murder

Michelle Troconis has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, with a suspension after 14.5 years, for her involvement in helping her former boyfriend, Fotis Dulos, conceal the murder of Jennifer Dulos, a mother of five from Connecticut.

Judge Kevin Randolph expressed that Michelle Troconis has full control over her decisions and her life. He acknowledged that she has a lot to offer based on what the court has heard. The judge emphasized that it is up to Troconis to determine what she will do today, tomorrow, and in the future.

Jennifer’s five children and several of her close friends delivered emotional victim impact statements in court.

Petros Dulos, who is now 17 years old, expressed his deep sorrow and loss in court, stating, “My mom meant everything to me. The void that her absence has left inside of me is something I know I can never fully heal.”

Troconis, 49, was convicted in March for multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit tampering with physical evidence, tampering with physical evidence, and hindering prosecution in the second degree. The maximum sentence she could have faced was 45 years in prison.

Just hours before the sentencing, Randolph made a significant move by vacating one of the charges against her. This charge, which accused her of conspiring to commit tampering with physical evidence, carried the potential penalty of an additional five years in prison.

Jennifer Dulos disappeared on May 24, 2019, after dropping off her children at school in New Canaan, Connecticut. This comes five years after her then-boyfriend’s estranged wife.

Troconis has consistently maintained that she had no knowledge of Fotis engaging in any suspicious activities. She states that she was simply unaware when she witnessed him disposing of garbage bags in various bins or when she assisted him in creating a timeline of their activities on the day his estranged wife went missing.

After listening to the heart-wrenching victim statements from Jennifer Dulos’ children, friends, and other family members in court on Friday, Troconis was given an opportunity to share her thoughts.

She sobbed as she gazed at Jennifer’s family and friends seated in the courtroom, expressing her profound sadness over the tragedy that has impacted numerous lives.

During the trial, I discovered things about a man whom I thought I knew and loved,” she continued, reflecting on the revelations that surfaced.

“I deeply regret my decision to enter into a relationship with Fotis Dulos and the consequences it had on my daughter, myself, and my family.”

According to attorney Jon Schoenhorn, the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence to support their claims beyond a reasonable doubt. This includes the allegations that Fotis Dulos was responsible for Jennifer Dulos’ death, as well as whether he was even present in New Canaan on that particular morning.

During the trial, Schoenhorn assured the jury that she was unaware of Fotis Dulos’ intentions to cause harm to her.

The state has made unfounded and unfair assumptions by speculating that Michelle Troconis had to know what was going on because she was romantically linked with Fotis, suggesting her involvement in this nefarious and murderous plot.

“But that’s not what actually happens,” he remarked. “It’s more akin to one of those scripted movies you see on cable TV. It doesn’t reflect the factual evidence presented in this trial.”

The search for Jennifer, initially a missing persons case, quickly transformed into a widespread investigation that garnered global media coverage. Her disappearance became the catalyst for various documentaries, including the Lifetime movie “Gone Mom,” and even led to a legislative change in Connecticut that expanded the scope of domestic violence.

Jennifer, a member of a wealthy New York City family and the niece by marriage of fashion designer Liz Claiborne, has never been found. However, a medical examiner has determined that suspected blood spatter in her garage and other evidence strongly suggest that she could not have survived. In October, a state judge officially declared her dead.

In a recent interview with WTNH, Gloria Farber, Jennifer Dulos’s mother, expressed her belief that Troconis “absolutely” lied to investigators and likely has knowledge of her daughter’s whereabouts.

However, she remains skeptical that Troconis will ever disclose the truth about what happened to her body to the family.

Ms. Farber expressed her belief that she has knowledge of Jennifer’s whereabouts.

In an interview with the outlet, she expressed her ongoing disbelief over what had happened to her daughter.

She continued, “I’m not sure what caused him to completely lose control.”

Ms. Farber currently has custody of the couple’s five children, who reside with her in New York City.

“I can’t help but think about her every single day. She dedicated all her wisdom and joy into raising her children,” she shared.

In her brief life, she managed to become an incredible individual who never ceased to astound me with her achievements.

Troconis has remained in custody on a $6 million bond since her conviction. Her attorney has expressed her intention to appeal the convictions following the sentencing.

Kent Mawhinney, an attorney and close friend of Fotis Dulos, is facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder. However, his trial date has not been scheduled at this time.

Friday last week marked the fifth anniversary of Jennifer’s disappearance.

Carrie Luft, a close friend of Jennifer and a spokesperson for her family, expressed that the fifth anniversary is not just a milestone, but a poignant reminder of the ongoing pain and sorrow caused by their loss.

Grief remains a constant companion, flowing alongside the continuous stream of life, a palpable reminder of what is missing.
