Mayor of Atlantic City and his wife accused of mistreating and harming their teenage daughter

Small, 50, and his wife, La’Quetta Small, were charged on Monday with endangering the welfare of a child. They are also accused of committing a disorderly persons offense by engaging in simple assault. In addition to these charges, the mayor is facing allegations of making terrorist threats and committing aggravated assault.

The girl reportedly experienced the abuse when she was 15 and 16 years old.

During a news conference held on April 1, Mayor Marty Small vehemently denied any wrongdoing in response to the police search of his home on March 28. He confidently stated, “We have done nothing wrong,” emphasizing that the prosecutor’s office had been conducting a months-long investigation primarily centered around “a family matter.”

Marty Small, along with his wife, daughter, and son, graced the news conference with their presence. Unfortunately, the Smalls could not be reached for comment on Monday.

Marty Small held a news conference following the arrest of Atlantic City High School principal, Constance “Mandy” Days-Chapman. She was charged with failure to report a case of abuse that a student had disclosed to her at home.

Instead, Days-Chapman decided to approach the student’s parents directly, as stated by the prosecutor’s office. The mayor confirmed during the news conference that Days-Chapman, who is a close friend and also managed Small’s mayoral campaign, took this course of action.

While the mayor did not explicitly confirm that the student who reported the abuse was his daughter, it is worth noting that he did express his support for Days-Chapman, who happens to be the chair of the Atlantic City Democratic Committee.
