Majority of Alabama voters strongly disapprove of illegal vapes from China, according to poll

According to recent polling data obtained by Yellowhammer News, there is a significant public demand to take decisive action against the distribution of illegal vaping products in Alabama.

According to a recent survey by Cygnal, 56% of likely voters in Alabama are in favor of implementing a law to establish a Premarket Tobacco Product Application (PMTA) directory. This directory would mandate vapor product manufacturers to verify their status, thereby enhancing the ability to enforce regulations against illicit disposable vapes.

According to the poll, a majority of likely voters, at 55%, are unaware that illegal disposable vape products, which mainly originate from China, are still accessible in the United States due to insufficient enforcement.

A majority of Alabama voters, specifically 66%, hold an unfavorable opinion of China, the communist country. Additionally, 51% of voters have a negative perception of vape shops.

State Rep. Barbara Drummond, from D-Mobile, proposed a bill in the previous session that mandates the Alabama Department of Revenue to establish and manage a comprehensive directory of businesses involved in the sale and production of vape cartridges, e-liquids, and other alternative nicotine products within the state of Alabama.

Drummond’s bill not only aims to establish a directory but also seeks to prohibit vape manufacturers and retailers from employing advertising strategies that target young individuals. This includes tactics like featuring characters from comic books in their ad campaigns.

According to the survey, it was evident that illegal vaping is just one of the many crimes that have raised concerns among Alabamians. The poll revealed that 53% of the respondents believe that overall crime has been on the rise in their vicinity over the past few years.
