Kelsey Nicole, originally known as Kelsey Harris, has recently decided to speak out about the infamous 2020 shooting incident involving her former best friend, the renowned Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion, and her ex-friend, the Toronto rapper Tory Lanez. Nicole shares her account of how she initially crossed paths with both artists and even discloses an interesting tidbit about Meg’s mom expressing gratitude towards her for kickstarting her daughter’s rap journey.
During her appearance on ‘The Danza Project,’ Kelsey Nicole Harris discussed various aspects of her life, career, and the highly publicized 2020 shooting that captivated the nation and kept people engrossed in the trial.
According to reports, Kelsey Harris allegedly testified that Megan Thee Stallion introduced her to Tory Lanez, but when Harris contracted COVID-19 and returned to Texas, Stallion “stole” Lanez away from her.
Regrettably, during that period, she was unaware of the inner workings of the music industry and failed to identify herself as an A&R or manager. However, in hindsight, she does take pride in kickstarting Megan Thee Stallion’s rap career. She even received validation from her late mother, affirming that she deserves recognition for her accomplishments.
Carl Crawford alleges that Megan Thee Stallion had a secret relationship with Tory Lanez while he was still in a romantic involvement with her former best friend, Kelsey Harris. According to Crawford, if it wasn’t for Harris, Megan and Tory would have never crossed paths.
During the video shoot for “Big Ole Freak,” Nicole shared that Meg’s mom took her aside and personally expressed gratitude for her role in Meg’s success. Nicole didn’t seek recognition for her efforts and continues to hold the same sentiment today. She is simply delighted that her hard work, starting from college and extending into the present, has ultimately benefited Meg.
Later during the conversation, Kelsey Nicole expressed her belief that she and Meg had been best friends since that night and continued to be so until the 2020 shooting incident. Moreover, she disclosed that due to the events of that night and the subsequent fallout, including her falling out with Meg, she no longer has the willingness to form new friendships or rekindle the closeness they once shared.
Kelsey Nicole revealed that she first met Tory Lanez at JAY-Z’s Roc Nation Brunch. It was during this event that Meg and Tory were captured playfully posing in front of the cameras. Although Nicole did not elaborate on how she and Tory developed a close bond and started getting involved, she mentioned that it happened several years ago. She emphasized that she is now in a new relationship and has a child.
“Blaming Kelsey Harris in the Megan Thee Stallion shooting case was not a viable strategy,” according to Tory Lanez’s former lawyer.
During the interview, Kelsey Nicole discussed her diss track aimed at Megan Thee Stallion, stating that she used it as a response to Meg’s bars. Towards the end of the interview, she turned the tables on the ‘Danza Project’ hosts and asked for their opinion on who they believed was the shooter in the case.
Tory Lanez was found guilty and convicted in December 2022 for the shooting incident that took place in July 2020. In August 2023, he was sentenced to 10 years. The charges against him included assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possession of a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
Danza openly confessed that he had unfairly labeled Nicole as the “scapegoat” due to his deep admiration for Tory Lanez, one of his favorite rappers, and couldn’t imagine him being guilty of such accusations. On the other hand, Danza’s co-host, Kato, expressed his dilemma as numerous conflicting narratives and theories circulated. Upon hearing Danza’s admission, Kelsey Nicole expressed her gratitude for his honesty and acknowledged that many others shared his perspective, but she maintained that her account of the incident differed. She hinted that one day she might reveal the complete story.
