Former Memphis police officer charged with murder and kidnapping in connection with fatal on-duty shooting in 2021

A man was charged with murder and kidnapping in connection with the fatal shooting of a man while he was on duty in 2021.

Patric Ferguson, aged 32, has been indicted on eight counts by a federal grand jury in Memphis, Tennessee, according to a press release from the Justice Department. Additionally, Joshua Rogers has been charged as an accessory after the fact for aiding Ferguson in concealing the crime.

On January 5, 2021, Ferguson, a Memphis police officer since October 2018, allegedly shot Robert Howard, who was 30 years old at the time.

The district attorney in Shelby County, Tenn., previously charged him with first-degree murder and other felony offenses, indicting him for the crime.

According to a police report regarding the shooting incident, Memphis officers were notified about the crime on January 6th around 8:30 p.m. The call to report a missing person was made by Howard’s partner.
