onald Trump once again rejected the accusations of rape and defamation made against him by writer E. Jean Carroll, which has caught the attention of her lawyer.
Former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to begin his post with well wishes for Memorial Day. However, he swiftly shifted gears and launched into a rant against Manhattan federal court Judge Lewis Kaplan and his response to E. Jean Carroll’s claims. Trump expressed his disbelief that two separate trials resulted in a woman, whom he had only briefly met at a celebrity event 25 years ago, being awarded a staggering 91 million dollars for defamation.
Last year, Kaplan oversaw the case in which a jury determined that Trump was responsible for sexually assaulting Carroll in a Manhattan department store during the 1990s. In January, Kaplan also made a ruling in the civil defamation case, stating that Trump had defamed Carroll when she accused him of rape in 2019. As a result, Carroll was granted $83.3 million in damages, a decision that Trump is currently appealing.
Carroll’s lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, wasted no time in responding to Trump’s post, stating, “We have consistently maintained that all options are on the table since the last jury verdict in January. This remains true todayโall options are still being considered.”
The Biden campaign fired back at Trump’s post on X, criticizing him for neglecting to mention fallen American service members in his Memorial Day message. Instead, Trump referred to those who do not support him as “‘Human Scum.'”
In a previous interview with CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” Trump made comments that Kaplan believes could potentially lead to another defamation lawsuit.
According to Kaplan, the statute of limitations for defamation typically ranges from one to three years in most jurisdictions. He further emphasized that they are closely monitoring every statement made by Donald Trump about their client, E. Jean Carroll, as they have been doing since the last jury verdict.
Trump’s campaign did not immediately provide a comment regarding Kaplan’s response.
