Georgia State Patrol officials were led on a high-speed chase Friday morning by a motorcyclist who is now on the run.
According to officials, troopers made an attempt to pull over a motorcycle on Interstate 20 eastbound at mile marker 99 due to a tag violation. However, the driver quickly accelerated and started to flee from the troopers at a speed exceeding 130 mph, as reported by GSP.
According to officials, the rider demonstrated extreme recklessness by passing on double lines, passing in curves, and running stop signs. The rider even led GSP troopers down the wrong way on the exit ramp for Interstate 20, driving east in the westbound lanes.
The troopers who initiated the chase decided to halt their pursuit, but the responding troopers managed to maintain visual contact with the motorcycle from the eastbound lanes.
After losing sight of the motorcycle, they eventually came across it in an abandoned area at the westbound rest area located at mile marker 108, according to officials.
Troopers positioned themselves, accompanied by their helicopter and K-9 officer, in an effort to apprehend the rider.
The suspect was tracked by the Walton County K-9, who successfully located clothing, a helmet, and a book bag. The search was assisted by GSP Aviation, but unfortunately, the suspect has not yet been found.
The investigation is still in progress.
