A man going across America, making his way across Alabama

A man is currently passing through North Alabama on his journey by foot from coast to coast.

Ranger Kielak embarked on his 3,000-mile journey on March 10, commencing with a symbolic act of dipping his feet into the Atlantic Ocean in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. His ultimate goal is to reach the Pacific Ocean at Pismo Beach, California by late August.

During the afternoon on Friday, WAFF managed to catch up with him on the side of U.S. Route 278 in Cullman, Alabama.

Kielak is walking with the goal of raising $100,000. His intention is to divide the funds equally among three non-profit organizations: Future Farmers of America, Bigger than the Trail, and the Hospice Promise Foundation.

Carrying just a backpack filled with essential supplies like food, water, and camping gear, Kielak embarks on his journey to not only explore the country but also connect with and gain insights from individuals he encounters along the way. As he travels, he conducts interviews for his podcast, “Within Range Coaching,” with people he believes are making a positive impact on the world.

Taking inspiration from singer/songwriter Mike Posner, who embarked on a nationwide walk in 2019, and an insightful quote by Ernest Hemingway, Kielak had a moment of realization. He reflected deeply and came to an important conclusion: if something keeps occupying your thoughts, it’s a sign that you should take action.

In 2022, he made the decision to fully commit to the walk in 2024.

“If you have a crazy idea, go for it,” Kielak encouraged. “You don’t have to embark on a cross-country journey. It could be something as simple as starting a business or asking someone out. These seemingly ordinary tasks are within your reach. You possess the necessary resources and skills to make it happen.”
