A dog who was missing for two days after an accident near a Kansas mall has been discovered

A Siberian Husky named Cosmo, missing for over two days following an early-morning collision near the Legends Mall in Kansas City, has been found. The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department announced on social media Thursday that Cosmo returned to KCK Animal Services, not only reuniting with his owner but also indulging in a snack, as he was captured in one of the traps set by Nancy Atherton and KC Trappers.

Cosmo went missing after fleeing the scene of a collision on I-435 on Monday. First responders were called to the area of I-435 and I-70, near the Legends Mall, around 6:10 a.m. on Monday, following reports of a two-vehicle collision. A 2022 Dodge Charger, driven by Vanessa Lupian Moreno, 25, of Charlotte, North Carolina, was heading west on I-70. Meanwhile, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported that a semi-truck hauling a 2012 Great Dane trailer, driven by Grant C. Dorsey, 61, of Greenwood, Mo., was heading down the ramp from I-435 to westbound I-70. The Charger struck the left side of the 18-wheelerโ€™s trailer, leaving it disabled in the fourth lane.

Responders transported Lupian Moreno and her passenger, Ezra Adams, 28, of Charlotte, to Providence Medical Center with possible injuries, while Dorsey escaped the crash unharmed. All parties involved were wearing seatbelts at the time.

KHP Troopers and members of the Kansas Turnpike Authority managed to secure Cosmo for transport to KCK Animal Services while Adams received treatment at a nearby hospital. However, during the delivery process, Cosmo, spooked by the collision, broke free.

Cosmo was sighted throughout KCK, from Parkwood Park at 10th and Quindaro Blvd. to City Park at 33rd and Park Dr. Nancy Atherton, along with her team from KC Trappers and Animal Services, collaborated to track and capture Cosmo, ensuring his safe reunion with Adams.
