According to Fox 32 Chicago, Taeyoung Kim, a 21-year-old, has been identified by the Glenview police as the person responsible for the tragic accident that resulted in the death of 17-year-old Marko Niketic. The crash occurred shortly after 11 p.m. on May 12th on East Lake Avenue, between Meadow Lane, according to the police. Kim allegedly had alcohol and marijuana in his system when his 2021 Ford Mustang’s dash cam captured him running a red light and speeding from downtown Chicago to a suburban street with a speed limit of 35 mph.
According to prosecutors, Kim was driving at speeds of up to 131 mph before the crash. A witness claimed to have seen Kim’s car turn off its headlights, only to turn them back on before colliding with Niketic’s vehicle as he made a left turn onto Lake Avenue. Court documents obtained by NBC Chicago state that Kim’s car was traveling at 122 mph at the moment of impact, completely wrecking Niketic’s car.
