3-year-old girl’s death leads to arrest of Indiana woman, held on $1 million bond

An Indiana woman has been taken into custody and is currently being held on a $1 million bond in relation to the tragic death of a three-year-old girl in 2023.

On August 22, 2023, investigators were called to Norton’s Children’s Hospital in response to a report from medical staff. They reported that a three-year-old girl had experienced a traumatic brain injury. The girl’s stepmother and caretaker, Ashanti Jackson, had dialed 911, explaining that the child had fallen off the bed during a seizure and had subsequently lost consciousness.

Jackson was issued an arrest warrant in mid-March for multiple felony charges. The charges include aggravated battery, neglect of a dependent resulting in death, and battery resulting in serious bodily injury to a person less than 14 years old. The warrant comes after a thorough investigation that lasted several months.

Jackson is currently being held in Clark County Jail.
