The forecast is calling for the potential of heavy rainfall throughout the day on Friday into early Saturday morning. Showers will start in the morning on Friday, but the heaviest downpour is expected to occur on Friday evening and continue into the early hours of Saturday. According to the Weather Prediction Center, there is a slight risk for flash flooding across almost the entire state on Friday.
In parts of the Midlands, Lowcountry, and Pee Dee, rainfall amounts are predicted to exceed 1 inch, with some areas in the Pee Dee potentially receiving over 2 inches of total rainfall. The risk of flash flooding is expected to be highest on Friday evening through midnight, as the heavy rain could overwhelm drainage systems, especially in areas that have already experienced significant precipitation earlier in the day. While there may be a few rumbles of thunder on Friday, no severe thunderstorms are anticipated.
On Saturday, as the sun rises, the heavy rainfall threat will come to an end as drier air starts to move in. Although there might be a few light showers, they will not cause any flooding concerns. Following the departure of the rain, a blast of colder and drier air will sweep through on Sunday. In certain regions of the Upstate and Midlands, temperatures could drop enough for frost to form late on Sunday night.
