Three individuals were discovered deceased in a residence in Independence, Missouri. Detectives have informed the family that initial indications suggest the cause of death to be a fentanyl overdose.
Just a few weeks ago, the deputy chief in that suburb acknowledged that they had reached a crisis point. And now, we have yet another incident adding to the mounting challenges they are facing.
“My son was taken from me, and he wasn’t prepared to leave this world. I never expected to say goodbye to him so soon,” expressed Don Alvis as he spoke about the tragic loss of his son due to a suspected overdose involving cocaine and fentanyl.
Alvis is currently revisiting the moments when he stumbled upon a deeply distressing and heart-wrenching revelation.
He expressed his belief that they were sleeping, as that was the appearance they gave off.
Little did he know, on the morning of Feb. 11, that his son David Alvis and three of his friends had succumbed to an overdose after indulging in cocaine during the early morning hours following a night out on the town.
“I couldn’t help but dwell on what I could have done,” Alvis lamented.
Fentanyl-related deaths in Jackson County have seen a staggering 270% increase from 2020 to 2022, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Just a month ago, FOX4 reported on the discovery of three men found deceased in the backyard of a residence in the Northland area.
The toxicology reports in this case confirm what the police have informed these families so far.
Jordyn Alvis delivered a heartfelt message to the attendees at her father’s funeral a few weeks ago.
In her speech, she emphasized that death is an inevitable part of life, and no one is exempt from its reach. She also emphasized the potency of fentanyl and the potential dangers associated with drugs that may be laced with it. As she concluded her remarks, she left the audience with these powerful words.
Jordyn expressed that often people don’t realize the impact of addiction until it directly affects them or their loved ones. It becomes a wake-up call when it’s their friend, mom, dad, sibling, or child who is struggling. Jordyn believes that if her father’s passing can inspire even one person to overcome addiction, then his death would not have been in vain. She emphasizes the importance of love and urges those struggling with drugs to put them down.
The family stated that there has been an arrest in this case. When FOX4 inquired about it, the police mentioned that it is part of their ongoing investigation. When we asked a series of other questions, we received the same response.
The families were informed about 4-6 weeks ago that they would receive definite answers. At present, we are almost 5 weeks into this, so they will have to continue waiting.
