The Movement for Black Lives emphasizes the urgent need to address the life-threatening dangers faced by Black individuals in America at the hands of the police. Disability Justice activists advocate for policies and protections that prioritize the well-being of immunocompromised individuals during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. LGBTQ+ individuals, in the face of deadly attacks, bravely assert the intrinsic worth of their bodies and lives.
The Kansas constitution ensures the freedom of choice by safeguarding the right to abortion. However, there is a persistent effort by anti-abortion legislators to introduce numerous bills with the intention of undermining this fundamental liberty. Their argument is centered around protecting the sanctity of life, which they believe commences at conception.
Repeatedly, it appears that not all lives are valued equally.
If they do, the state policymakers and lobbyists who identify as “pro-life” should be actively advocating for a ceasefire alongside the rest of us. Despite the numerous rallies held throughout the state, Kansas districts and localities have not yet joined the increasing number of cities calling for humanity and peace.
A man on Twitter made a comment saying “war is war” in response to an account that was raising awareness about the ongoing atrocities happening in another country. In order to address this comment, @TalkThirty dedicated two weeks to conducting thorough research. They aimed to compare the initial months of Israel’s assault in Gaza with other conflicts around the world. The results they discovered were not only striking but also deeply disturbing.
“All lives matter” is a phrase that continues to be echoed, highlighting the importance of valuing every individual.

Over the course of the last two years, nearly half of the states have enforced severe restrictions, effectively banning the procedure either from conception or after just six weeks.
Our government institutions prioritize protecting fetuses over the babies and children who are victims of gun violence every day, as well as those affected by bombings overseas. This is particularly evident as war crimes continue to be committed in Gaza.
After the Roe v. Wade decision, there are still some proponents who continue to push for the concept of fetal personhood. They argue that embryos should be considered as unborn children and should be granted the same constitutional rights to life as protected by the 14th Amendment.
In a recent ruling, the Alabama state supreme court has declared that “frozen embryos are people” and is now granting them the same legal protection as babies under the Wrongful Death of a Minor Act.
Advocating for life requires a full commitment to protecting all vulnerable lives, both domestically and internationally. It is high time for legislators who oppose abortion to align their actions with their stated values. The absence of attention given to the situation in Gaza is significant, but there is still an opportunity to hold those who claim to champion life accountable and urge them to take concrete steps.
