Governor Ron DeSantis addressed the Florida Homeschool Convention on Thursday, emphasizing the state’s stance against indoctrination in education. In his speech, he made it clear that such practices are not welcomed in the Sunshine State.
“As a parent, you understand that your children are like open books when it comes to education. Would you want to entrust them to an indoctrination factory for eight hours a day? Absolutely not,” expressed DeSantis.
Florida holds the top position in the United States for homeschooling, as stated by DeSantis. He further emphasized his unwavering support for education choice, homeschooling, and the empowerment of parents in making decisions regarding their children’s upbringing.
Governor DeSantis expressed his firm stance against indoctrination in Florida’s educational institutions, regardless of the grade level. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that students are not subjected to any form of biased or one-sided teaching, from kindergarten to university.
The number of homeschooled children in the state has seen a significant surge, according to state data. In just a span of six years, from 2013 to the present, the figures have more than doubled, soaring from 77,000 to a staggering 150,000. This astonishing increase amounts to a remarkable 101.3% rise.
According to DeSantis, universities and colleges across the country are giving students the freedom to do as they please on campus, even to the extent of vandalizing school property and taking over administrative offices.
According to DeSantis, the inmates are essentially given free rein. They have the ability to participate in demonstrations supporting Hamas, occupy properties, establish encampments, take over offices, and engage in various other activities without facing any repercussions.
According to DeSantis, there were instances in Florida where protestors supporting Hamas tried to establish encampments at the University of Florida and Florida State University. However, both attempts were quickly and effectively thwarted.
According to DeSantis, the incident lasted around 15 minutes before the individuals involved were removed from the premises, thereby upholding the rule of law. However, he believes that this occurrence reflects a broader issue within the education system, as similar incidents have occurred in universities before.
According to DeSantis, students participating in protests is one thing, but supporting a terrorist organization like Hamas, known for beheading babies and assassinating elderly individuals, is an entirely different matter.
In order to counteract this trend, DeSantis emphasized the importance of Florida schools teaching classic subjects such as American history. He also highlighted the need for universities to prioritize the Western tradition and Western civilization. This shift away from what he referred to as “soft” liberal anti-American ideologies is a key focus for the state.
