Former UConn Huskies basketball player, Rakim Lubin, has tragically passed away at the young age of 28.
The Prestige Memorial Funeral Home has reported that the basketball player, known as “Rock” because of his impressive 6-foot-8 stature, tragically passed away on May 12th.
It is currently unknown what caused Rakim’s death.
Lubin, hailing from Georgia’s Buford High School, showcased his exceptional talent as a three-star recruit. His senior year performance was nothing short of impressive, averaging 20.3 points, 12.1 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game.
In the same year, he guided the Wolves to an impressive 27-6 record and led them to victory in the Georga 2A state championship.
Lubin, who was named the Georgia Sportswriters 3A Player of the Year, had multiple college offers, including one from Georgia Tech. However, he ultimately decided to commit to playing for the Huskies under the coaching of Kevin Ollie in 2013.
As a freshman, he showcased his skills in 24 games and proved to be an invaluable asset to the team.
Lubin made the decision to transfer to Cal State Northridge for the 2016-17 season, where he showcased his skills by averaging 8.5 points and 5.2 rebounds for the Matadors.
In 2017, Lubin’s last appearance was with LSU Shreveport.
