Two Texas men were recently cited for alleged oyster violations in Iberia Parish on May 1, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. The enforcement agents took action against the individuals.
Edward T. Ebanks, aged 55, from Texas City, and Denis Ianuza, aged 48, from Houston, were issued citations for their failure to complete trip tickets. Additionally, Ebanks was cited for violating regulations pertaining to oyster cargo vessels.
Agents spotted a vessel collecting oysters from a private lease in the Gulf of Mexico off Marsh Island while on patrol. The oysters were being delivered to a larger cargo vessel.
Ebanks was found to be lacking a permit for his oyster cargo vessel, according to agents. Additionally, it was discovered that both Ebanks and Ianuza failed to fill out trip tickets when transferring the oysters from the smaller vessel to the cargo vessel.
Officials announced that law enforcement agents have confiscated and subsequently released 150 sacks of oysters back into their natural habitat.

Violating regulations for oyster cargo vessels can result in a fine ranging from $400 to $950, and offenders may face a maximum jail term of 120 days. Similarly, failing to complete trip tickets can lead to a fine of $250 to $500, and individuals may be sentenced to up to 90 days in jail.
