Nikki Haley, the former 2024 Republican presidential candidate, has recently been appointed as a chair at the Hudson Institute conservative think tank. This significant move marks her first major endeavor since withdrawing from the race.
According to Haley, it is crucial for our policymakers to actively identify our adversaries and acknowledge the significance of our alliances. Failure to do so can make the world a less safe place. She emphasized the importance of Hudson’s work in this regard, stating that it plays a critical role. Haley further highlighted her previous recognition from the organization, having received the Hudson’s Global Leadership Award.
“I am excited to collaborate with them in upholding the principles that truly make America the greatest nation on earth,” expressed Haley.
Haley has been appointed as the Walter P. Stern chair, which is named after the group’s former chairman. Sarah May Stern, the board chair of Hudson, commended Haley’s courage and insightful nature.
The extent to which Haley will weigh in on the 2024 presidential race remains uncertain.
Nikki Haley, a former South Carolina governor and U.N. ambassador, emerged as the final contender to challenge former President Donald Trump for the 2024 GOP nomination, a race that he ultimately triumphed in.
Haley emerged as one of Trump’s most vocal critics within the party by the end of her primary campaign, a stance she had previously avoided.
Despite winning most of the contests, Haley did manage to secure victories in two primaries: Vermont and Washington, D.C. She frequently emphasized the idea that Trump’s ability to unify the party and win a general election was in question, as a significant number of Republicans still chose to vote for her.
When Haley ended her campaign in early March, she did not endorse Trump.
“I have always identified as a conservative Republican and have consistently backed the Republican nominee,” expressed Haley at the time. “However, when it comes to this particular issue, Margaret Thatcher’s wise words come to mind: ‘Never simply follow the crowd. Always exercise your own judgment.'”
“It is now Donald Trump’s responsibility to win over the support of those within our party and beyond who did not originally endorse him,” she remarked. “I genuinely hope he accomplishes this task. Politics, at its core, is about attracting individuals to your cause rather than alienating them. Our conservative movement is in dire need of a broader coalition.”
