57-year-old ‘Mid-South Wedding Crasher’ in Alabama and Mississippi passes away

According to an obituary, a woman who gained notoriety as a serial wedding crasher in Alabama and Mississippi has passed away.

Sandra Lynn Sanford Henson passed away on February 8 at the Magnolia Regional Medical Center in Corinth, Mississippi. She was a resident of Rienzi, a small town located approximately 60 miles west of Florence, Alabama.

She was 57 years old.

In December, Henson admitted guilt to two counts of property theft following her arrest for crashing two weddings in Lauderdale County and making off with the gifts.

Henson received a sentence of 31 months in state prison and was fined a total of $12,500. Additionally, she was ordered to pay restitution of $570 and $650 to the two couples she had stolen wedding gifts from. Furthermore, she was placed under two years of post-release supervision.

According to WHNT in Huntsville, Henson’s attorney revealed that at the time, Henson was experiencing multiple medical conditions. He had already endured three heart attacks, a stroke, and kidney failure. However, the exact cause of Henson’s death was not mentioned in the published obituary.

The judge ultimately decided to suspend a majority of Henson’s jail sentence, instead instructing her to spend two weekends in jail.

Henson’s journey as a serial wedding crasher seems to have started when she was found guilty of stealing from a wedding in 2017 and was given probation. Two wedding crasher theft cases in Florence in 2019 led to Henson being charged again.

Henson faced charges of theft in those instances, including both a misdemeanor and a felony. However, it appears that these charges may have been dropped, as indicated by court records.

After the arrest of twelve individuals from various weddings in Alabama, Tennessee, and Mississippi in 2019, the Florence police were notified. Each of these individuals reported to the police that they had witnessed Henson at their respective receptions, where she had taken gift envelopes and money from purses located in the wedding party changing rooms.

According to Memphis TV station ABC24, Henson gained the nickname “Mid-south Wedding Crasher” due to her inclination towards stealing at weddings.

In the following two years, she faced charges in various other cases, which eventually resulted in her conviction and a five-year prison sentence in Mississippi. A judge in Tennessee had revoked her probation, despite Henson’s plea for leniency on account of her health problems. The judge argued that if she was physically capable of crashing weddings, she was fit enough to serve time in prison, as reported by Memphis.

According to the Mississippi Department of Corrections database, Henson was scheduled to be in prison until January 2025. However, it does not provide any information regarding the timing or reason for her release.

In October of last year, Henson found herself in trouble once again. This time, it happened in Pontotoc County, Mississippi, where she was arrested for crashing a wedding and stealing from it. The charges against her included petit larceny, trespassing, and disturbing the peace. It’s important to note that this incident occurred while her previous case in Alabama was still pending, and she later pleaded guilty to that in December.
