Young skier in Colorado dies while attempting a highway jump

The accident took place on Highway 40, located just west of Berthoud Pass Summit, a mountain pass in the central part of the state. As per a post shared by the Grand County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Emergency responders discovered that the young man, aged 21, had already passed away when they commenced their assessment at the location. Personnel from the Coroner’s Office also arrived at the scene.

Young skier was trying to jump the highway

According to the sheriff’s office, the victim was attempting to clear the width of Highway 40 just moments before his tragic death.

According to the post, the victim unfortunately did not have enough speed and distance, causing them to land on the highway pavement. However, the victim was wearing a helmet and other protective gear.

Identity of skier, cause of death will be released later

The man’s name has not been released by the Grand County Coroner’s Office.

Traffic on Highway 40 experienced temporary disruptions in both directions on Tuesday as investigators processed the scene and ensured the privacy of the victim, as stated in the post.
