A woman from Georgia allegedly fired shots at two drivers on a Florida interstate, claiming that she was “directed by God” due to the solar eclipse that occurred across the country on Monday, according to authorities.
According to a news release by the Florida Highway Patrol, Taylon Nichelle Celestine, 22, has been arrested and is now in custody at the Holmes County Jail. Celestine is facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and improper discharge of a firearm, as stated by the FHP.
Celestine’s place of origin in Georgia was not disclosed by the troopers, although they did mention that her vehicle had Georgia license plates.
According to troopers, Celestine had recently departed from a hotel in the Florida Panhandle. She informed the hotel staff that she was embarking on a shooting spree, which she believed was divinely guided by God, in connection with the solar eclipse.
According to the Tallahassee Democrat, Celestine got onto Interstate 10 at mile marker 112 in a purple Dodge Challenger and started driving west towards Pensacola.

According to the release from the FHP, Celestine allegedly fired shots at a vehicle within a five-mile distance of merging onto the highway.
According to troopers, the vehicle endured multiple hits, resulting in the motorist being struck by glass fragments and grazed on the arm by a bullet. Fortunately, the man managed to steer his vehicle onto the shoulder of I-10.
According to troopers, the suspect carried on driving west on the interstate and reportedly fired shots at another vehicle around mile marker 107. The victim was hit in the neck and was promptly transported to a nearby hospital. However, no information regarding their current condition has been disclosed.
Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol apprehended the suspect near mile marker 96 and initiated a traffic stop, according to FHP. Upon searching the vehicle, troopers discovered an AR-15 and a 9mm handgun, leading to the arrest of Celestine.
It remains unclear if Celestine has legal representation or if bail has been established.
